Chad Harberts Bio
Chad Harberts has been many things in his career:
television personality, newspaper reporter, delivery
driver, cook, small business owner, sports information
director, disc jockey and professional poker player.
He grew up in Grundy Center, Iowa, where he played
basketball, baseball and golf for the Grundy Center
Spartans.
After high school, he played a year of junior college
baseball at Marshalltown (Iowa) Community College. After
graduating from junior college, Chad transferred to the
University of Northern Iowa. He graduated from Northern
Iowa in 1993 with a degree in Liberal Arts and a minor
in Journalism.
Chad left Iowa in 1993 for a new career in Kansas City,
Mo. He started as an intern in the sports information
office at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. After
just one year, he was promoted to Sports Information
Director, a job he held for four years. He was then
promoted again, this time to Director of Marketing and
Promotions.
From there, Chad joined the Kansas City Blades
Professional Hockey Club, serving as Director of
Marketing and Promotions during the team’s 10th
anniversary season.
In 1999, he moved over to Metro Sports, a 24-hour cable
sports station owned by Time Warner Cable in Kansas
City, Mo.
As the co-creator, producer and co-anchor
of "High School Roundup" on Metro Sports, Chad earned
two Aurora Awards, two Telly Awards and a regional Emmy
for his contributions.
In 2004, "High School Roundup" was named the best local
show on cable in the four-State region.
Chad left Metro Sports in 2004 to start his own
consulting and promotions business. Monster Sports LLC,
quickly added many small and medium sized businesses to
its roster. Chad worked to obtain sponsorship dollars,
increases sales, gain promotional opportunities and help
deserving high school students earn college
scholarships.
Chad is widely considered an expert on high school
sports in the greater Kansas City area, and consults on
high-school related entities throughout Kansas City.
In 2008, Chad was a weekly guest on Prep Xtra, a
web-based TV show produced by WDAF Fox TV, a weekly
guest on 38 The Spot with Jack Harry and the host of
High School Showcase on KCWE Channel 29. He also served
as a weekly guest on Crunch Time with Dave Stewart and
Len Dickey and host Friday Night Live, both on Sports
Radio 810 WHB.
In December 2008, Chad was presented with the Gordon
Docking Award for lifetime achievement in media coverage
of high school sports in the Kansas City area. The award
was presented at the 2008 Thomas A. Simone Awards.
A card player since he was a youngster, he and his
childhood friends used to play pepper, poker and other
card games for nickels and dimes.
Chad got caught up in the poker craze after watching
Chris Moneymaker win the World Series of Poker. He won a
qualifier for the World Series of Poker Main Event at
Harrah’s North Kansas City casino. He has played in at
least one World Series of Poker event every year since
2004.
In addition, Chad has played in poker events in Tulsa,
Okla., Mesquite, Nev., Council Bluffs, Iowa and of
course, Las Vegas.
In addition, he won the nightly $100,000 grand
tournament on PokerStars in January 2008.
Chad and his dog, Pirate, currently reside in Kansas
City, Mo.
Pirate's Bio
Pirate was born October 28, 2001, in Kansas City, Mo.
As a three-month old German shepherd mix, he was adopted
from Wayside Waifs in Kansas City. He was just nine
pounds on his adoption day, but would quickly grow into
the guard dog and companion he is today.
Pirate loves going for walks, riding in the car, going
to dog parks, playing with children, chasing geese,
eating Frosty Paws and getting belly rubs.
He also likes to hang out with his best friends, Espn,
Wrigley and Max.
When he is not guarding our house, he likes to lie on
cool tile or anywhere the air conditioning can blow on
him.
