Summer Flurry

I have not done a very good job of blogging since the World Series of Poker began. Truth be told, it has been a busy summer and it’s not even August yet!

The WSOP was a blast! Although I only played in one official event, I did cash for the first time in my poker career at the WSOP. I played five Daily Deep Stack events, though I only went really deep once and didn’t cash at all. I got to see three friends play in the Main Event, two of them for the first time. Generally, it was just good to hang out with my buddy Ben at The Rio and take it all in. I met up with my buddy Devo a couple of times. He introduced me to this poker pro, who couldn’t have been nicer. Hopefully I will get her and Devo out to Club Fortune Casino soon.

I missed my 25th high school reunion in Grundy Center, Iowa, because of some conflicts with poker here in Henderson. It was a shame to miss it, and I heard my little class of 54 people had a great time.

At St. Monica Pier, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

I just got back from my first vacation in LA, which was a blast! In two days took in a Dodgers game, Olvera Street, The Bike, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Chinese Theatre and Santa Monica Pier. The traffic is just as bad as stated, but I had a great Cali tour guide with me!

The Dodgers won a thriller in extra innings over the Phillies with a Matt Kemp bomb. The Bike was busy, but not overwhelming. St. Monica Pier was breaktaking and fun.

However, all the sights paled a little compared to the find in Hollywood. There’s a little Italian joint over by Jimmy Kimmel’s studio called Miceli’s. Now I have Italian cooking in Chicago. I’ve been to some of the old mobbed up joints in Kansas City. Even had Italian here in Las Vegas. None of those places had anything on Miceli’s. The decor was outstanding. The food was amazingly good. The piano player was fantastic without overwhelming the dining experience. And our waiter even sang a tune in a pleasing baritone. Although it bills itself as the oldest Italian restaurant in Hollywood, it certainly doesn’t have the fame of its neighbor Musso & Frank, this place was incredible!

Another trip to Los Angeles is on the horizon, as a birthday trip downtown to Golden Nugget!

Now that I am back in Las Vegas I am already making plans for the 2013 WSOP. We got some serious players wanting to get together and get a poker club going for a spot in the Main Event. You know I am in!
